(Sequel to The Old Vale and its Memories published in 1927). **The Vale of Leven (Scottish Gaelic: Magh Leamhna) is an area of West Dunbartonshire, Scotland, in the valley of the River Leven. Pp.226, colour frontispiece from the painting of Vale of Leven by Alexander Jamieson + many black & white photos throughout, printed sheet "An Appeal" (which encouraged subscribers to make donations to help the local old and frail of the Vale) is loosely enclosed. Grey card covers with blue title and thistle decorated border to front, yapped edges chipped. G+.

First Edition. An early gardening treatise, with special reference to more exotic fruits and legumes. xii, 232pp. 23cm x 14.5cm. Scarce Front board and endpaper detached otherwise VG. Internally tight and suitable for rebacking as boards and half leather binding are sound.

Hard Cover. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. 1st UK Ed. Hardback, no dust-wrapper. xii, 232pp. 23cm x 14.5cm. Contemporary paper-covered boards, later but not recent cloth spine with paper label. Extremities slightly rubbed. Small losses to spine label. First and last few pages slightly foxed, with occasional slight foxing thereafter. Pages uncut. Inscribed on the front free end-paper "To J. Backhouse York 1830 from the Author". Inscription from Author.
