Inscribed neatly by Edwards in blue ballpoint in the left margin of the back cover, "Sincerely, Teddy Edwards". This is the first stereo pressing (released simultaneously in mono) of a studio date that teams the tenorist with pianist Les McCann, who supplies some funky accompaniment, and his trio of bassist Leroy Vinnegar and drummer Ron Jefferson. Edwards's autograph is not common. Starting out in territory bands before moving to LA in 1944, Edwards's own quartet was active there in the late '50s/early '60s. Brian Priestley, the distinguished British jazz critic, writes that "Edwards is a forthright soloist who has been consistently undervalued. His typical Southwestern sound reveals an affinity for the blues and the tone quality that goes with it, but this is only the background to an extremely fluent use of post-bop vocabulary" (Jazz: The Rough Guide, 1995, p. 187). This is much to the fore here in a highly appealing album that showcases some fine blues playing on a pair of Edwards-McCann originals and a handful of standards, "Our Love is Here to Stay", "Fools Rush In", "Undecided", "Lover, Come Back to Me", and a warm and laid-back reading of "Willow Weep For Me".
