Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - MAN WITH A LOAD OF MISCHIEF was originally presented off-Broadway in 1966, receiving rave reviews and garnering such comments as: 'A solid hit!' and 'Perfectly charming!' (New York Times), 'Remarkably appealing!' (New York Post), and 'Sprightly and ingratiating!' (NY Daily News). Since then this delightful musical has become a classic, seen in many productions throughout the United States and countries across the world. The six-character show has seen four revivals in New York City. RECORD WORLD described the show in this encapsulation: 'Set in a Regency England highway inn, it scrambles with surprising little condescension the affairs of a gentleman who isn't a gentleman, a lackey who isn't a lackey, a lady who isn't a lady and a maid who isn't a maiden with grand comic style. But the show's real strength-happily, in this musically stultifying integrated age-lies in its tunes. If anyone would fault the songs for not being integrated, it is because they stand out from the text, as a good song will, and can be recalled after the last bow.' Unfortunately the published script and piano-vocal score had not been available for purchase until their recent publication (2011). This script represents the complete musical, containing all the dialog and lyrics, with notes by the show's creators Ben Tarver and John Clifton.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - The murder of Colonel Fountain is the most notorious of New Mexico's many 'unsolved' killings. Pat Garrett came out of retirement to track down the killers, and this resulted in the bloody gunfight at the Wildy Well. Feared gunman Oliver Lee and two others were charged with the crime. Albert Bacon Fall who liked to brag that he never lost a murder trial defended them. This 'trial of the decade' was the climax of the west's last great range war, a war so violent that it cost New Mexico statehood for three decades. A huge camp was thrown up overnight in the rugged mountain camp of Hillsboro to accommodate the hundreds of newsmen who flocked in from across the nation. The Tularosa War was a fight for control of the Southwest. The bodies of the two victims were never found. Fall won as he predicted he would, only to meet his downfall and disgrace as the principal figure of Washington's Teapot Dome Scandal.Fountain and Garrett lost the Tularosa War, but both men are still thought of as two of the frontier's best, giants among giants.

In den WarenkorbMimeographed rehearsal script, pp. 47, printed on rectos only, bound in red stiff paper wrappers. Typed title label, author's name added in pencil. 1p. TLS on headed stationery of the University of Alberta. Outsize wrappers a little worn and marked, but contents well preserved. TLS stained red in places from long contact with the play's wrappers. INSCRIBED BY TARVER TO HEATHCOTE WILLIAMS: 'For Heathcote Williams -- "Always whittle away from you, And never spit into the wind!" J. Ben Tarver'. TLS FROM TARVER TO WILLIAMS LAID IN. Ben Tarver [1927-2013] taught playwriting at the University of Alberta, and had an off-Broadway success with the musical Man with a Load of Mischief in 1966. His letter to Heathcote Williams, dated 20 October 1981, presenting this script reads: 'Heathcote, I've felt guilty ever since Henry misplaced that book meant for you -- or gave it to someone else or some such likely story. I felt I had to send you something. You've always been so generous and gracious with me. I thoroughly enjoyed reading THE IMMORTALIST. A potent little piece, and very funny. The enclosed is no match for it, I reckon, but at least I've tried to return the favor. All the best. Keep in touch. Don't know when I'll be back in merry olde, but I'll certainly buz you. [signed] Ben'. We can find no record of this play ever having been staged.
