Presentation copy, with calligraphic inscription to Sir Alfred Clapham, C.B.E., F.B.A. (architectural scholar and president of the Society of Antiquaries) from the photographer R.P Howgrave-Graham. Clapham's bookplate is affixed to front pastedown, with a subsequent owner's ex libris, dated 1951, in ink below. Howgrave-Graham was assistant keeper of the Muniments at Westminster Abbey from 1945-59 and was responsible for extensive restoration work on wooden funeral effigies damaged during the war; his ashes are buried there.
