Loose leaf. Zustand: g to vg. First edition. "To Sandra Phillips Boaz Tal" in margin below first photograph. Elephant Folio (16 x 12"). (1) 19 (3) plates. Catalog of the 1987 exhibition at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, Barbara and Isidore M. Cohen Pavilion, originally stapled plates with transparent printed vellum cover, ninetee…n plates of photographs, and three printed plates. One with commentaries by Marianne Fulton, Associate Curator, and Nissan N. Perez, Curator of Photography, at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, a second with brief Tal bio and lists of exhibitions, publications and acquisitions, and third with bibliographical data, the last two in English and Hebrew. The 9 x 9" reproductions from 6 x 6 cm negatives were taken with and El Nikkor 105 mm 1:5,6 Lens, and printed by Sabinsky, Tel-Aviv. Captions in English and Hebrew. The Boaz Tal website presenting the sequence of eighteen plates with twenty photographs included in the exhibition does not include the nineteenth plate of the 1986 photograph of "The Artist's Wife," present in this collection. "Tal's photography in the last years indicate a strong desire for the understanding of the self. In a series of anti erotic nudes, and with a blatant voyeuristic exhibitionist attitude, Boaz Tal attacks in his photographs several social and cultural myths. His iconoclastic approach, deals with the status of women in Israeli society, criticizes the "Macho" versus the "Queen of the kitchen" attitude. The false drama in these carefully staged stark photographs, and the many little visual clues and puns he included, keep the ambiguous and swinging between the tragic and funny." (Perez). All twenty-three plates are loose with three double holes from staple binding at top edge, and with soft horizontal bend at middle. Transparent cover page with light age-toning. Overall in good very good condition.
