Since then a wealth of literature has been accumulated on various aspects of tropical and subtropical fruit crops. The present day fruit cultivation has become a highly sophisticated enterprise. In the process of a comprehensive literature survey it was felt impossible to compile the research results on tropical and subtropical fruits in one volume. The third revised edition of this book is, therefore, published in two volumes. The first volume consists of fruits like mango, citrus, banana, grape, pineapple, papaya, litchi, guava and avocado in about 730 pages. In the second volume olive, persimmon, pomegranate, date palm, ber, longan, annonas, sapota, passionfruit, fig, loquat, macadamia nut, aonla, jackfruit, rambutan, carambola, bael, tamarind, durian, syzygiums, feijoa, mangosteen, phalsa, tamarillo, acerola, karonda, wood apple, dillenia, kokam, salvadora, cordia and capparis have been included in about 880 pages. This book (in 2 volumes) is comprehensive and valuable text providing a complete overview of the principles and practices of tropical and subtropical fruit culture, 798 pp.

"The main purpose of this publication is to acquaint both the students of horticulture in general and vegetable crops in particular with the current development on different aspects of vegetable cultivation based on the results of numerous research work throughout the world. The need for collecting and reviewing the scattered literature pertaining to vegetable improvement and production has long been felt and the present publication is an attempt in that direction. Many scientists in India, actively engaged in research on vegetable crops and teachers of horticulture in different agricultural universities have felt the need for a composite text on vegetable crops, their current developmental and research status. The contributors have tried to orient their texts accordingly." 959 pp.

Hardbound. Zustand: As New. New. Contents Preface. H (Haplophragma Hyssopus). I (Iberis Ixora). J (Jaborosa Juttadinteria). K (Kadsura Kydia). L (Labiatae Luvunga). Index. Plants of horticultural importance with numerous species and innumerable varieties and cultivars ranging from enormous trees of more than 100 m high to small herbs comprising fruits vegetables ornamentals plantation crops spices medicinal and aromatic plants are of great commercial value providing food shelter beverages oil paper rubber medicine and natural essential oils etc. Numerous ornamental plants are extensively grown for beautification outdoors throughout the world and as houseplants indoors cut flowers constitute a major item in the beautification programme and in commercial floriculture. The plants in general trees and shrubs in particular many of which are of horticultural importance are friendly to environment contributing enormously for sustaining life on the earth by releasing oxygen reducing the level of carbon dioxide and industrial gases that cause air pollution and global warming minimizing erosion maintaining soil fertility encouraging recreation etc. resulting in a better environment for a better life. The cultivation practices of large number of horticultural crops in greenhouses and outdoors standardized through research investigations have brought about marked improvement in quality and production. Application of biotechnology has resulted in remarkable progress in the science and production technology of horticultural crops including medicinal and aromatic plants and in developing resistance to diseases and pests through genetic transformation. In view of the enormous importance of horticultural crops for a healthy life in a better environment an effort was made to write a dictionary of horticulture. The major objective of the present endeavour is to provide useful literature in all groups of horticultural crops including those grown in warm climate. In addition to the morphological characters of many genera and thousands of species and cultivars their uses cultivation practices of major crops have been written keeping in view that a brief write up may not always serve a useful purpose as a guide to production. Apart from the usual importance and priority on fruits vegetables ornamentals plantation crops and spices an emphasis has been given on important medicinal and aromatic plants many species of which are of tropical and subtropical origin. The uses and cultivation methods of many of these plants have been included. The book will be published in 10 volumes comprising about 600 pages each with 500 to 600 illustrations in colour. This multi volume publication is expected to augment interest in general horticulture and also to provide useful information on various aspects of different groups of horticultural crops their taxonomy uses and production technology with emphasis on tropical and subtropical plants. 3088-3738.

The third edition of this book has been the result of a thorough revision with updated information that was first published in 1986 reprinted in 1991 and further revised and published in 1997. Meanwhile lot of information has been generated in the field of propagation of horticultural crops in general and micro propagation in particular. The existing conventional propagation practices have been either improved or new methods have been evolved and a revolution has occurred in the field of biotechnology. While preparing the manuscript on Biotechnology of Horticultural Crops which was published in 3 volumes accumulation of enormous and valuable information on propagation of horticultural crops particularly from in vitro culture was very encouraging to bring out another revision of this book on propagation. It was a difficult task to summerise both macro and micro propagation of horticultural crops along with fundamentals of propagation practices within a proposed programme of a manuscript in one volume. The present edition is therefore published in two volumes. The first volume consists of propagation practices of fruit crops and 5 general chapters on fundamentals of sexual and asexual propagation propagation techniques and tissue culture methods. 662 pp.

Hardcover. Zustand: New. 4th Edition. Specific emphasis has been placed long back through the education on vegetable science with the publication of the text-cum reference book in a single volume .Vegetable Crops in India as early as 1986. Keeping the demand and interest of the stakeholders in view, this book was revised further in 1993 and 2003 under three volumes in the name. Vegetable Crops. Wide array of modern research approaches on vegetable crops in India and abroad during last two decades warrants further revision of the book in fourth edition in four volumes. In this fourth edition, every aspect of production, protection, breeding and biotechnology of more than 50 major and minor vegetable crops (Volume 1: Leguminous vegetables and root crops; Volume 2: Cole crops, okra and tropical tuber crops; Volume 3: Solanaceous fruit vegetables, salad crops and leafy greens and Volume 4: Cucurbits, bulb crops and perennial vegetable crops) were dealt with by renowned academicians and scientists in the country. This book, structured with thousands of references and colour photographs stands as unique of its own. Students, researchers, vegetable specialists, horticulturists, agricultural research scientists and extension personnel across the world will find this book very informative as well as practical.
