Large 8vo in dark green cloth, gilt lettering to spine and front cover, bevel edges, xiv + 105pp with glossary and index, 12 full page colour plates on thick paper, 12 full page woodcuts and 2 woodcuts in text, glossary and index. This copy was presented by the authors' wife (who drew and painted the illustrations in the book) to Joseph Beck whose signature and and address are neatly insrcibed in ink at the head of the title-page. Beck was noted and wealthy maker of fine microscopes but is widely known for saving Clissold Park in Stoke Newington from the developers in the 1880's . [CONDITION: VERY GOOD, a well preserved, sturdy clean and tight copy (4 repaired chips to spine, pages slightly tanned ] . . .
