In fair condition, lightly aged, slightly spotted and laid down along one edge on thicker piece of paper. In an elegant calligraphic hand he writes: 'Believe me / Yours truly / Geo du Maurier / Apr. 26, 83'. The 'eo' of the 'Geo' of the signature is presented as a stylish squiggle, looking a little like a 'W'. See image.

One flap of portfolio loose, cover soiled and discolored, plates a little foxed. Trilby introduced the mesmerizing character of Svengali, to become an eponym for a criminal mastermind. It was a great sensation in its day as a novel and as a play (and later, films). According to a February, 1896 newspaper advertisement, this publication contains, indeed, seven photoengraved plates. An ephemeral publication, complete and very rare.
