Soft cover. Zustand: New. The extraordinary story of a child bride who took on the patriarchy and emerged one of India s pioneering women doctors. From overcoming stupendous trials to inscribing her name in the annals of women s liberation, Rukhmabai s journey is marked by a quiet, unyielding strength. Denied formal education and wedded off at eleven years of age to a nineteen-year-old wastrel named Dadaji Bhikaji, Rukhmabai refused to live with him and was dragged into a vexatious legal suit for the restitution of conjugal rights . The suit set off a huge social and political debate of far-reaching importance. Coverage of her historic defiance in both British and Indian media established her as a salient figure of global feminism and, along with the backing of notable reformers, soon paved the way for her move to the United Kingdom to study medicine. Studying at the London School of Medicine for Women and qualifying to be a doctor in 1894, she returned to India a celebrity but chose an unglamorous life of service through medical practice. She spent the next many years, until her retirement in 1929, leading hospitals in Surat and Rajkot through two pandemics, performing daring surgeries, awakening women across classes and inspiring them to openly seek medical treatment. An outcome of research spanning decades, Sudhir Chandra s authentic, perceptive biography shines brilliant new light on this extraordinary but little-known life of a rebel-doctor who dared to challenge the norms of her time and left behind a formidable legacy. The radical view she proposed of woman s freedom is yet to be fully realized.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Language: English. About the book: The sugar industry is the second largest industry and next to textile industry. It plays an important role in the India economic life of India. It is such an industry which makes an impact on agriculture directly. The sugar industry has great significatory value which cannot be devalued in its relationship with agricultural and industrial economy of the rural region of India. The Indian sugar industry is a key factor of rural development, supporting over about 55 million sugarcane farmers and their dependents and a large mass of agricultural labourers involved in sugarcane cultivation, harvesting, machine manufacturing etc. Further, the Uttar Pradesh is the foremost state in production of sugar and sugarcane in the country. It contributes almost fifty per cent of the total production of the country. But nowadays, Indian sugar industry is suffering from some basic problems i.e., archaic plant and machinery, poor physical condition and sickness etc. Hence, the term Quality of Work Life (QWL) has been increasingly used to describe certain environmental and humanistic values neglected by the industrial societies in favour of technological advancement, industrial productivity and economic growth. Therefore, this book is an attempt to highlight the dimensions and status of QWL in Uttar Pradesh Sugar Industry. It is widely covers the four important aspects of QWL i.e., working environment aspect, relational aspect, job aspect and financial aspect. In this context, this book will certainly prove to be useful to policy makers, mill owners, employees, practitioners of human resource and students for understanding the conceptual knowledge of quality of work life and further research scope in this area. About The Author: Dr Sudhir Chandra Das, Professor in Commerce at Faculty of Commerce, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. He did his PhD from BHU. His specialisation exclusively is Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour and current areas of interest in research are HRD, Industrial Relations, Corporate Social Responsibility, High Performance Work Systems and Insurance etc. He has published forty research papers in national and international reputed indexed journals and delivered good numbers of lecturers in the capacity of key note speaker/guest faculty/resource person. Prof. Das has completed one UGC major research project and currently working in ICSSR, (New Delhi) major research project on Work Life Balance. He has visited two times abroad for presenting research papers in Canada and England. Further, Prof. Das has been awarded Best Business Academic of the Year (BBAY) Award 2006, by AICC, India. Mr Anil Kumar Gope is Qualified UGCNETJRF in Human Resource Management in 2011. Presently he is pursuing his doctoral research in the Faculty of Commerce, BHU. Miscellany. 11. Future prospects and strategies. References. Because of the advantage of their universal presence minute size and astonishingly rich physiological qualities microbes play a key role in maintaining the biological equilibrium on earth and in their absence life on the planet will be extinct. Different forms of interrelationship between plants and microbes have developed over million of years. On the extreme end destruction of one by the other takes place. On the other hand in the struggle for existence between the two efficient opponents various forms of symbiotic relationships have emerged. The possible beneficial role of a symbiotic association between plant roots and fungi was brought out for the first time in 1842 by Vittadini and the name Mycorrhiza was given to it by Frank in 1855. Since then our knowledge on mycorrhiza plant relationship has grown somewhat with slow pace until about 1970 when there was a sudden upsurge of interest on a specialized type of endomycorrhiza vesicular arbuscular mycorrhiza (VA Mycorrhiza). The prodigious research made during last three decades clearly established its widespread occurrence in various plant species and under different agroclimatic conditions covering broad ecological range including deserts forests and mangroves. It was also established that this symbiotic association benefits the plants through enhanced nutrient uptake biological control of root pathogens and synergistic interaction with nitrogen fixing microorganisms hormone production and drought resistance. In view of its utility to plants this biotool has now attracted the attention of microbiologists agronomists horticulturists and foresters at the global level. Key Features The book includes all the work done by the major mycorrhizasts of India on various aspects. Taxonomy morphology and anatomy distribution of VA mycorrhizae in various habitats their effect on plant growth their physiology their interaction with other microbes their role in the control of soil borne pathogens including nematodes role in wasteland reclamation methods of inoculum production etc. find their way in the book. Valuable suggestions of active mycorrhizasts in various priority areas have been framed for future research in VA Mycorrhiza in the country. The book will be highly useful for the microbiologists plant pathologists environmentalists biochemists biotechnologists agriculturists foresters and planners. 413 pp.
