The image depicts Ruth McEnery Stuart, seated at a table, with one arm resting on an open book. The image is marked by Campbell Studios, Waldorf Astoria, possibly photographed by Rudolf Eickemeyer, Jr. who took photographs for Campbell Studios from 1909 until 1915, in their studio in the Waldorf Astoria Hotel (for more information, please see the online exhibition "Broadway Photographs: Art Photography & the American Stage 1900-1930"). Faint crease and small chip at upper right corner barely affecting the image, else very good, with sharp focus. Ruth McEnery Stuart, a southern writer, was born in Marksville, Louisiana. Captioned on verso in an unknown hand: "Mrs. Ruth McEnery Stuart, author of 'Daddy Do Funny.".
