Hardcover. Zustand: Good. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, red cloth boards with gilt text on spine. Exterior shows scuffing and soiling along with edge and corner bumps/wear. Cloth is split at the rear hinge, lower right section. The internal binding of the text portion of the pages is good but hinges are cracking a…t both boards. The front pastedown contains a small bookplate in the opposite end page contains a name label. No other markings found in the book, no handwriting. Pages are darkened due to age and quality of paper used. All 20 illustrations have been verified as being present. Embellished with Reproductions of the whole of the Engravings (20 in number) by Heath, from the Designs of Thomas Stothard (illustrator).

Blind-stamped red cloth covers fairly clean b…ut some cloth loss along lower fore-edges, darkening to top front, 3 small holes in unlettered spine, front has gilt logo of hand holding a uroboric snake encircling a butterfly with 'Psychoneurology' above it. Will try to re-affix disbound leaf and chart with archival transparent tear-repair tape when ordered (unless instructed otherwise). Definitely one of the odder phrenology/physiognomy productions. The grandiosity of Stothard's aspirations is perhaps indicated by a declaration I have just spotted at the foot of the chart 'None perfect unless Stamped' - and indeed there is a small oval impressed stamp 'The Catholicon. R.E.Stothard 18' plus inked number '65' completing date.
