Hardback. Zustand: Good to Very Good. First Edition. 1932. First edition. xvii, 172pp. and numerous black and white plates and illustrations within the text. The author of this book was a Devon based blacksmith and craftworker in metal. He regarded iron work as an art and deplored the growth of mass production. In this book, he gives an account of how he established his own smithy and became involved in the creation of decorative ironwork. There are also chapters that provide information on the various tools and processes involved in smithing. The book is bound in the original tan cloth covered boards with brown titling on the spine and a small blind-stamped illustration on the front board. The case of the book is in good to very good condition with shelf wear and noticeable soiling to the boards and spine. The spine ends are bumped with a little damage to the cloth and there is some partially repaired splitting to the cloth on the top 3 1/2" and bottom 1" of the front spine edge and top 3" of the rear board. The contents are tight and clean with some fairly light foxing to the preliminary pages, including the title-page, and a little scattered light foxing elsewhere within the book.
