Das Projekt war reif für die Publikation, als Hurrikan Sandy auf die Küste von New Jersey traf und Ha user zersto rte, die Ljungkvist kurz zuvor fotografiert hatte.Der schwedische Fotograf Douglas Ljungkvist lebt in Brooklyn, New York. Für diese neue Serie untersucht und dokumentiert er die Bunker des Vallo Alpino, ein System von Befestigungsanlagen, das vom faschistischen Regime in den späten 1930er Jahren zum Schutz der norditalienischen Grenze angelegt und von der Armee bis 1993 unterhalten wurde. Vincenzo Pagliuca konzentriert sich auf die noch heute in ganz Südtirol verstreuten Bauten. Der Bau dieser ca. 300 Bunker wurde damals mit einem noch nie da gewesenen Einsatz von Ressourcen realisiert. Visionäre und monolithische Architekturen tauchen auf diese Weise aus der Vergessenheit auf. Seine Bilder wecken das Interesse der Betrachter für eigenwillige Tarnungsmethoden und für Beziehungen, die die Gebäude im Laufe der Jahrzehnte mit ihrem natürlichen und sozialen Umfeld eingegangen sind.
