Th…e folding map opens to 96cm x 50m and shows the expedition route through the Chinese provinces of Shansi, Shensi and Kansu. Account of the 1908-09 expedition led by Clark and Sowerby. Clark was an heir to the Singer Sewing Machine fortune and he bank-rolled the trip. De Carle Sowerby was a Shanghai based writer and naturalist, and a frequent contributor to The China Journal. Liberally illustrated, this book covers matters zoological, meteorological, geological and natural history encountered on the route as well as providing an account of the travels, places visited etc. The book is in excellent, almost Fine condition. The map in the rear pocket is complete, with no tears or loss, but has some light spotting.
