Illustrated with 24 color plates, each with an overleaf of descriptive text, 54 black & white plates, and numerous text woodcuts of Chinese characters, symbols and pictorial marks. E…dition limited to 1000 numbered copies (this is #489). Inner hinges cracked but holding soundly, spine a touch darkened and head of spine very lightly frayed. Previous owner's pencil signature on front free endpaper dated Dec. 10th, 1902. Monkhouse (1840-1901) died just before the book was published and the editor, Bushell (1844-1908), added some text before sending it to the press.
