The volume deals with the crucial period from constitutional monarchy of Louis XVI (1789-91) to that of the early Revolution (1791-94) when the emblem changed from the white cross and the fleur-de-lys to the French national tricolor of blue-white-red for the infantry, provincial militia, artillery, Garde de Paris, Garde Nationale, and volunteers. This second volume continues the story with no less than 550 plates with over 790 flags supported by 18 tables.
