A perfect copy. - From the text: Stephanus Heidackers work incorporates art historical references from the twentieth century (and earlier) that manage to be simultaneously a little comic but not the least bit ironic.at least not in the popular American usage in which irony is often confused with sarcasm. These paintings are meditative, and occasionally melancholy, but without ever losing the faint tone of wit with which Heidacker has laced most of his artworks. As he himself notes, they arent narrative paintings in any meaningful sense; apart from the emotional tone of the moment depicted, its impossible to imagine what might come before or after this scene. There are familiar archetypes as old as European civilization, from the faithful dog to the portentous key or the bone that traditionally bespeaks mortality, but theyre pretty much stripped of most if not ali of their traditiona! associations.
