Die Malerin und Typographin Kate Steinitz hat zusammen mit Kurt Schwitters und Theo van Doesburg avantgardistische Kinderbucher gestaltet. Dafur wurde sogar ein eigener Verlag gegrundet, der Aposs-Verlag (ein Akronym von: ,aktiv", ,paradox", ,ohne Sentimentalitat", ,sensibel"). Einer der herausragendsten unter Kate Steinitz' Entwurfen ist der fur das Kinderbuch Billy, vermutlich kurz nach ihrer Immigration in die USA 1936 entstanden.

Die Künstlerin, Käte Steinitz, arbeitete bis zu ihrer Emigration in die USA eng mit Kurt Schwiitters zusammen, das vorliegende Buch dürfte bald nach 1936, dem Jahr der Emigration, entstanden sein.
