Stanyan resided in Switzerland from 1705 to 1714. Haller appreciated the unbiased exposition without prejudice or value judgments from its author, whose reading he recommends. It was seeing the paucity of works on Switzerland that prompted the author to take the trouble to write his own. *.

Als Verfasser gilt der englische Politiker, Diplomat und Schriftsteller Abraham Stanyan (1669-1732 - bis 1714 eidgenössischer Gesandter der englischen Regierung. Gelegentlich wird auch Abrahams Bruder Temple Stanyan als Verfasser genannt (1695-1776, ebenfalls Politiker und Schriftsteller). Die Übersetzung stammt von dem Chevalier Lukas Schaub (1690-1758), einem in Basel geborenen Diplomaten in englischen Diensten. Schaub war der Privatsekretär von Abraham Stanyan während seines Aufenthaltes in der Schweiz und begleitete ihn 1714 zurück nach England. . Provenienz: mme. [?] G. de Correvon (Namenszug von alter Hand auf dem vorderen fliegenden Vorsatzblatt). Es könnte sich um Benigne Seigneux de Correvon handeln, die Ehefrau des Lausanner Juristen und Ratsherrn Gabriel Seigneux de Correvon (1695-1776). Eine bibliographische Notiz auf dem unbedruckten Folgeblatt von der selben Hand; Notizen auf dem vorderen Vorsatz mutmaßlich ebenfalls zugehörig. Das goldgeprägte Supralibros mutmaßlich ebenfalls zugehörig. - Gering berieben und bestoßen; gutes Exemplar auf gutem, frischem Papier.
