Sreenivasan based on his 37 years of being a diplomat with the Government of India, and of 20 fruitful years after his retirement. Some of the articles will rekindle memories of events long gone by, but had made news headlines at the time, including an Indian minister inadvertently delivering a large part of a speech intended for another country's minister at the UN; diplomatic goof-ups, but all swiftly covered up with aplomb, and of how ambassadorships are secured in a prominent Western nation. Several of the essays have made notable impacts, influencing the perceptions of those in positions of authority. The book celebrates the attainment of 80 years of the author's wisdom and his experience. T.P. Sreenivasan has had a distinguished innings as India's envoy, including at the UN in New York, Nairobi and at the International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna. After retirement, he has been involved with improving higher education in Kerala. Wing Commander Ragashree D. Nair is the editor of the compendium.…

Hardcover. Zustand: New. 1st Edition. Modiplomacy Through a Shakespearean Prism is a unique work of contemporary history by a writer, who has a background of learning and teaching English literature and a wealth of experience of diplomacy in the Indian Foreign Service for 37 years. As he watched the unfolding of Narendra Modi's brand of diplomacy for five years, he saw in it the changing fortunes of a Shakespearean hero, whose central role in the play is dictated not only by his sterling qualities, but also by his tragic flaws and circumstances which go beyond his control. Based on his columns published in the leading newspapers and web portals in real time, the author has created a new genre of political commentary, making a blend of instant assessments as the events occurred and considered observations as they resonated in India and abroad. To get a view of a Prime Minister's actions and reactions as he set about shaping the foreign policy of a new India and an analysis of their repercussions is a rare experience in narration and appreciation of the man and his times. Objectivity, without a trace of prejudice or hero worship, is the hallmark of the work. The fascinating story of Modiplomacy of five years is told here with the sensitivity and objectivity of an author, who is rooted in literature and grown in the world of diplomacy around the globe.…

Hardcover. Zustand: New. 1st Edition. Education of an Ambassador is the story of how a former ambassador, who was called upon to make an effort to fashion a 'Higher Education 2.0' for Kerala, ended up educating himself on the hindrances to heralding changes in the system. The resistance to change came in the form of ideological battles, turf wars, bureaucratic lethargy and sheer indifference. The author recounts his experiments with reform passionately and explains his frustrations vividly, but without rancour. The author gives the salient aspects of the reform proposals contained in the sixteen reports he submitted to the Government in the expectation that future reformers will start where he left off and they will not have to show the other cheek to intolerant elements and enemies of change as he had to do throughout his journey of reform of higher education. Former Ambassador T.P. Sreenivasan became an 'accidental educationist' after nearly forty years of diplomacy and strategic thinking and writing. He has joined the galaxy of men who shone as both diplomats and educationists such as Sardar K.M. Panikkar, M.C. Chagla, Nurul Hassan and Hamid Ansari. His work in Japan, Bhutan, Russia, US, Myanmar, Fiji, Kenya and Austria and his expertise in multilateral affairs have been universally recognized and appreciated. As a Senior Fellow in the Brookings Institution, a member of the National Security Advisory Board and Director General of the Kerala International Centre, he sharpened his skills to wrestle with the higher education system in Kerala and to narrate his story in an inimitable manner. Sreenivasan currently lives in Thiruvananthapuram as a much sought after commentator and speaker on international affairs and a trainer of young minds to compete for the civil services. (jacket).…
