Unusual binding detail find's "Harpers" in black lettering to base of spine but all publishing info in the book decidely that of the Russell 1st edition. Handsomely illustrated wqith 16 full page plates from block engravings, 7 in color. Frontis tissue guarded. Soundly bound and clean; gift inscription to front flyleaf, undated. Mild furring of cloth at spine ends and light rub at tips. Just mild shelf/handling soil to boards. One plate mid book had lossened and is I alittle furred at the front edge; we have reseated the plate. The poetry is often in vernacular, sometimes in that of a young child, sometimes in an approximation of Americanized german and some southern, African-American styled vernaculars.
