Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Unstated ed. (no dust jacket) [moderate exterior wear, binding good and solid, previous owner's last name in red pencil on ffep, spine cloth somewhat faded and gilt lettering thereon rubbed but still readable]. Two plays by the husband-and-wife writing team, the first of which is a classic Hollywood satire. The screenwriting duo portrayed in the play were purportedly inspired by Grover Jones and his long-time partner William Slavens McNutt; the characters were portrayed by James Cagney and Pat O'Brien in the 1938 Warner Bros. film adaptation, which tries three times too hard to be a madcap romp but succeeds only in being hysterical (and not in a good way).

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair dj. First Edition. [book is modestly shelfworn, slight bumping and teensy fraying at lower corners; dust jacket is heavily worn, some paper loss to spine extremities, spine panel discolored, front flapfold extensively split, various creases, small tears, etc.]. Satirical farce about a foreign correspondent in Moscow. Introductory note by Herman Shumlin, who produced the play on Broadway; the Spewacks later adapted it for an M-G-M film starring Lee Tracy. Very uncommon in the dust jacket (although this is admittedly a pretty rough example) -- sure wish I knew the illustrator of same.

Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First edition. Fine in about very good dustwrapper with some tears and chipping, mostly along the top of the front panel and on the spine ends. Classic comedy, many think the main characters were based on Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur, as a successful pair of screenwriters whose every work is a variation of the "boy meets girl" plot. We have however, been informed that the main characters were based on the prolific screenwriters Grover Jones and William Slavens McNutt, Jones in particular was a one-man screenplay factory. Basis for the 1938 Lloyd Bacon-directed film featuring James Cagney and Pat O'Brien, and which also numbered Ralph Bellamy and Ronald Reagan among the cast.

Hardcover. Zustand: Good. First edition. Unopened, spine a bit toned, the paper covered boards a little rubbed, very good without dustwrapper. Warmly Inscribed by Sam Spewack and Signed by both he and Bella Spewack. A popular musical play based on *The Taming of the Shrew*, basis for a number of films and television movies, originally directed by George Sidney in 1953 with Kathryn Grayson, Howard Keel, Ann Miller, Keenan Wynn, and Bob Fosse. Made just as Hollywood was trying to give television audiences a reason to return to theaters, it is reportedly the only film shot simultaneously in 3D, widescreen, and full frame versions, and consequently suffers a bit from performers repeatedly lunging themselves at the camera. Also of note is the 1968 television version directed by Paul Bogart with Robert Goulet and Carol Lawrence.
