Ils sont cependant parmi les plus mal aimés et très certainement les plus…mal connus. Cet ouvrage comble un vide en présentant les syrphes, emblématiques par leur allure, leur omniprésence dans les milieux naturels, les campagnes et les villes, et les services qu'ils fournissent, en particulier à l'agriculture. Avec 228 espèces recensées à la date de cet ouvrage, le canton de Genève, qui occupe moins d'un pourcent de la surface de la Suisse, héberge près de la moitié des espèces de syrphes connues dans le pays. Elles sont ici présentées sous une forme accessible à un public large et illustrées pour plus de la moitié d'entre elles. Cette première monographie consacrée à ce groupe en Suisse fournit des informations sur la biologie, l'habitat et la distribution des syrphes, mais aussi sur les techniques d'observation et les informations que ces insectes peuvent fournir. En bref, l'objectif est de permettre aux lectrices et aux lecteurs de porter un nouveau regard sur les "mouches" et la nature qui les entoure. The Diptera, which include flies, midges and other mosquitoes, among others, form one of the largest groups of insects with the Hymenoptera (bees, wasps, bumblebees, ants, etc.) and the Coleoptera (beetles, chafers, ladybugs, etc.). However, they are among the most unloved and certainly the most poorly known. This work fills a gap by presenting hoverflies, emblematic of their appearance, their omnipresence in natural environments, the countryside and cities, and the services they provide, particularly to agriculture. With 228 species recorded at the date of this work, the canton of Geneva, which occupies less than one percent of the surface area of Switzerland, is home to almost half of the hoverfly species known in the country. They are presented here in a form accessible to a wide audience and illustrated for more than half of them. This first monograph dedicated to this group in Switzerland provides information on the biology, habitat and distribution of hoverflies, but also on observation techniques and the information that these insects can provide. In short, the objective is to allow readers to take a new look at "flies" and the nature that surrounds them. Genève.
