The publisher's original i…llustrated boards remain remarkably clean and bright, exhibiting sharp corners and no significant edge-wear, having been safely preserved beneath the dust wrapper. The binding is decidedly tight and square, presenting a firm, unread text block. Internally, the pages and colour plates are crisp and entirely free from foxing or distracting blemishes, retaining excellent colour fidelity. The accompanying dust jacket displays only minor shelf-wear at the extremities and slight rubbing to the spine ends, presenting very handsomely overall within its protective archival sleeve. Catalogue Note This is a 1953 reprint of the original 1951 King Penguin edition (Number 61 in the acclaimed series), edited by N.B.L. Pevsner. Each map measures approximately 12" x 9", printed on 17" x 11½" paper with descriptive text in the left margin. Housed with a title page sheet and unprinted top sheet in a four-fold chemise. Unprinted topsheet sunned at the edges, first two leaves wi…th some very light toning and a couple of tiny corner creases; the maps are otherwise bright and fine. The chemise is good only with toning, wear, and soil, and a 1" creased tear on the cover panel. A nice production, and the chemise has done its job, keeping the maps bright and fresh.
