This copy, given its age, is in contented and comfortable condition. The leather cover is much worn and marked and scuffed. It is secure and benign. Within, there is age related foxing throughout. However, the pages are mild, clear, assured, utterly companionable, with a presence and perception that rings agreeable even now. A sure book. fk. A few interior leaves are lightly creased without affecting legibility. Book plate of Edward W. Kinsley (Boston merchant and abolitionist) on front paste-down, Kinsley's signature on first free end-paper. Slight rubbing to square corners. Text block square, clean and tight throughout. Collection of essays from the early eighteenth century (1711-12). Spectator magazine which offered political commentary through the character of Sir Roger, a hearty, humorous, plain old gentleman. Size: 12mo. Book.

Never was the noted illustrator more felicitous than in his drawings for Sir Roger.

Outer hinges a little bit strained, a touch of wear to extremities of covers, a few spots of abrasion to spine, a very good copy, in attractive binding.
