These works were spread out between ten different volumes during their initial publication in 1837-1838.This edition includes the prefaces from the earlier editions at the beginning of the text.Contents are grouped under headings such as 'Botany Bay Eclogues', 'Lyric Poems', 'Odes', and 'Ballads and Metrical Tales'.Robert Southey (1774-1843) was a Romantic poet. Southey began as a radical and became more conservative over time, resulting in him being accused by Byron as siding with the establishment for money and status. He was poet laureate from 1813 until his death.Collated, complete. Bound in half-morocco on cloth boards. Externally, smart. Some fading and discolouration to the boards, but minimal edge wear to extremities. A bit of rubbing to the raised bands of the joints, and to the top of the rear board. Front hinge is slightly strained but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean throughout, with some age-toning to the top-edge of the text, as well as the odd spot. Tidemark to top of frontispiece and vignette title page. Prior owner's ink inscription on recto of front free endpaper. Very Good. P. Lightfoot (illustrator). book.
