Very scarce work. Illustrated with three colour plates with tissue guards and a folding facsimile. Collated complete. An account of "The Tuscan Strad", a violin by Antonio Stradivari, an Italian luthier and a craftsman of string instruments such as violins, cellos, guitars, violas and harps. The precision with which he carved the heads and inserted the purfling quickly marked him as one of the most dexterous craftsmen in the world, a prime example of this being the 1690 "Tuscan" violin. At the time of writing the violin was in the possession of W. E. Hill & Sons, a British firm based in London that specialises in violins, string instruments and bows. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Light age toning to the extremities and endpapers. A contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Very Good. book.
