Included in the auction were numerous important letters, Washington's last private memorandum books, silver, glass, books, autographed letters from various eminent men, Franklin imprints, maps, plans, newspapers, Philadelphia imprints, works on the "black art," and more. The full contents of several of the letters are transcribed in the catalog including: a letter from Washington to Major General Henry Lee, a letter from Benjamin Franklin to his friend James Reed, and a couple of letters from Washington to his nephew Lawrence Lewis. Printed list of prices and names of purchasers are also included. The two most expensive items sold (each for $800) were a set of candlesticks and a letter by Benjamin Franklin. Lacks all 9 plates and addenda. Very good minus recased original paper wrappers. Interior yellowed; chipping and small tears to some pages but fairly clean. Tape repairs to rear wrapper. Sale includes Madame de Pompadour's copy of Homer inscribed by William Morris to Burne-Jones. Copies held by the Grolier Club and Univ. of Indiana (WorldCat) and the National Trust (COPAC).

Soft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. 123 pages errata slip frontis of the great hall + 26 pages of illustration showing some of the lots from photographs. Bookplate of the Incorporation of Architects in Scotland Sir Rowand Anderson library bequest. The contents clean and tight with no inscriptions or marks. Printed card covers with photo insert of the house to upper flap, chipping to head and tail of the spine the binding clean and tight. Some early strengthening I part to inner cover edges not visible when viewed from the front or rear. A 3-day sale in August 1910 of 1908 lots of the collection of the Late Vincent Robinson sold on the premises. Includes rare old English Italian and Flemish furniture, tapestries, arms and Armour Persian carpets embroideries the library of books, stained glass panel's etc.

4to. pp.23. Original grey-blue printed wrappers, folding map in pocket at rear. Large (74 x 96 cm) folding map colour co-ordinated with the 138 listed lots. The first 46 lots annotated in pencil with hammer prices. Covers foxed, minor stain to map upper left, generally very good.

Each plan printed in black on one side of a piece of paper, with areas picked off in blue, green, orange, pink and yellow. Plan No. 1: 72 x 86 cm. Plan No. 2: 88 x 68 cm. Plan No. 3: 76 x 89 cm. The first two very good on lightly aged and creased paper; the third as the first two apart from some wear along a crease resulting in two areas of loss each roughly 2 1/2 x 1 1/2 cm. The various properties (over seventy lots) are numbered, with names of the proprietors of neighbouring estates given.

A unique copy of a scarce title with buyers identified, prices realized and lengthy annotations in a fine pencil by an anonymous someone with an intimate knowledge of Mt Vernon and the histories of various pieces offered. This exemplified by their comment on lot 294 (Morse's Portrait of Henry Clay): "this facsimile does injustice to this picture which was truly a splendid one. The background was a yellow sunset flush. The story of the $10,000 offer we do not credit" Last line of pencil notes trimmed at p.33. Moisture mark to front lower fore edge pages and lower part of last eight pages. iv, 152 pages; describing 953 lots together with many illustrations, some of which are folding.
