This is a very nice highly decorative, ornate business trade card with ornate embossed borders and "scalloped" edges which are classic hallmarks of high-quality late Victorian (c. 1880-1900) The Dutton business based on St. John Street, which was a central hub in Chester. Livery stables we…re the Victorian equivalent of a car rental agency and taxi service combined; they kept horses and carriages for hire, provided "buses" for larger groups (pleasure parties), and offered boarding for horses owned by visitors. The card notes a branch office "Opposite the Grosvenor Hotel." which was a prime location, as the hotel was (and is) one of Chester's most prestigious landmarks, ensuring they captured business from wealthy travellers arriving by train or staying in the city. The card measures 8.5 inches by 5.5 inches approx., minor corner crease else in good condition. This is a lighter item, shipping costs will be reduced accordingly at checkout.
