Zustand: Poor. 64pp. The plain paper cover is tatty & is really only fit for discarding, within is the Title Page followed by 'Argument of the first Canto', poem then starts on P3 & continues to Finis on P64. Content still well bound together. Although edges are worn (there are large margins) the interior is in nice… clean condition. Owner's name at top of title page (neatly). Main title page not present so no printer, date, or author shown, but believed to be one of Stagg's 1740's edition from evidence of size & number of pages. No illustrations.

Square 8vo. 87pp. Profuse and wonderful illustrations by William Somervile including frontispiece, many full page plate illustrations, scrolled chapter headings and de…corated initial letters, lovely thick creamy paper, attractively untrimmed to fore and lower edge, top edge gilt. Very good clean tight sound square, no attractive bookplate, no inscriptions or further marks of any kind. Beautifully bound in very good, bright gilt lettered and illustrated blue cloth gently rubbed to spine with good shelf presence and featuring gilt fox, crossed whip hunting horn and ribbon-tied reins to spine, upper with gently rounded lower corners featuring hunting scene embossed in gilt. Somervile is best remembered for 'The Chase', this early English discursive georgic poem in 4 cantos.
