Published in 1914, this is the First Edition of this autobiography of a life of big game hunting in England and around the world, including Ceylon, India, Cyprus, Iberia, including shooting sharks in Mauritius, illustrated with a colour frontispiece, This example retains the rarely seen dustjacket which repeats the design on the books cover 9 inches tall approx., 418 pages. The dustjacket is in a worn state, with splits, tears, creasing, foxing and browning with loss, in three pieces, now housed in a removable protective sleeve. The books cover has some sunned spots on spine in line with the missing areas of the jacket' Internally old ownership inscription to front endpaper, foxing and browning to endpapers Foxing on an off throughout, noticeable foxing to outer page edges.

Subscribers edition, 1st. 192 pages, large 8vo., TEG, coloured frontis + 3 other coloured plates, pages uncut, foxing to end papers, some occasional foxing to contents. original limp red cloth binding with gilt roebuck being attacked by hound to upper board. The book is in 1/4 morroco clampshell box, cloth sides, spine in 6 compartments with title and rolled gilt tooling. Limited to 100 copies. This was the first book in English solely devoted to the Roe. Part 1 The Natural History; Part II Roe Hunting; Part III Roe Shooting; Part IV The Roe In Heraldry; Part V Management Of Roe. An extremely scarce title, there were 72 initial subscribers to this book, which included many leading sportsmen of the day, libraries and institutions. A book which seldom appears for sale. A vg copy in the original binding of a scarce title in particularly good condition and well presented in the clapshell box.
