All plates illustrated with b/w photographs of casts of Persian wall reliefs. As Cecil Harcourt-Smith states in the exhibition pamphlet, "the casts here described are taken from molds procured by an expedition sent to Persepolis in 1891. .Whereas at Susa the remains are chiefly representative of one period, that of Artaxerxes Mnemon (404-359 B.C.), at Persepolis sculptures are still standing which show a fairly continuous development of Achaemenid art from the reign of Darius son of Hystaspes (522-486 B.C.) to that of Artaxerxes Ochus (359-338 B.C.). Plates include the Upper and Lower Part of Throne Relief from the Hall of the Hundred Columns, Frieze from the Hall of Xerxes, Central Panel of Frieze from the Stairway of Artaxerxes III Ochus, and reliefs of a Winged Genius from the Period of Cyrus the Great, a King Stabbing a Monster, a Bodyguard, and a King Stabbing a Lion. Pamphlet titled Temporary Exhibition of Casts from Persepolis and four plates from different publication laid in. Binding with wear along edges, chips at corners and top edge of front cover. Lightly sunned along edges of binding, rubbed. Previous owner's name inked to inside front cover. Title plate with crease in lower left corner, plates two and six with small creases in lower right corner. Pocket at inside back cover with light fraying at top and bottom edges. Few pencil marks in margins of plates. Lightly age-toned. Binding in overall good-, interior in good, images in very good condition.

Having studied at the South Kensington School of Art, he returned to the Potteries and worked as a designer for James McIntyre & Co. In 1913 he left to set up his own pottery, which continues to this day.Contains William Moorcroft's distinctive sepia printed bookplate, the design of which is inspired by illuminated initials from medieval manuscripts.
