Joseph Victor Tanski (1806-1888) est officier polonais lors de l'insurrection de Novembre 1829. Après la défaite polonaise, il part en France où il rédige des mémoires sur l'armée russe à l'intention du Maréchal Soult. Il sera naturalisé français en 1845, et servira comme chef du service des Renseignement militaire à l'Armée d'Orient, durant la guerre de Crimée.
