In den WarenkorbThe subtropical low-boreal chiton Lepidochitona cinerea (L., 1767) was found in intertidal pools on Tromso Island in northern Norway. Although remote from the main part of the species' distribution range, the population appears to be safe, with a regular annual recruitment. It is thought that L. cinerea invaded northern Norwegia…n waters during a period of warming, either 5 to 6 millennia or possibly just one millennium ago. Subsequent cooling destroyed the constant cinerea that remained in the intertidal pools could persist due to the species tolerance for severe winter temperatures, as well as the considerable warming of water in the pools during the prolonged boreal Tonicella rubra (L., 1767), as well as the boreal-arctic T. marmorea (Fabricius, 1780) and Stenosemus albus (L., 1767), were found in the same intertidal pools, possibly having arrived there as a result of storms. 11 pp., 5 figs, gr. 8.

In den WarenkorbMohnia kurilana Dall, 1913 was described more than 100 years ago from deep waters off the Kuril Islands and remains exceedingly rare in museum collections. Originally placed in the carnivorous neogastropod family Buccinidae, fragmentary soft parts from the type lot and from several specimens belonging to allied species collected… in the Aleutian Islands in the 1990s have allowed anatomical investigations for the first time. These have revealed the presence of a paucispiral operculum with an eccentric nucleus, foot with a deep propodial pedal gland and metapodial pedal gland, taenioglossate radula, short acrembolic proboscis, well-developed mid-esophageal gland, glandular prostate, and the absence of a penis; the nervous system is epiathroid with a long supra-esophageal connective and numerous statoconia in the statocysts. Analysis of the gut contents revealed abundant halichondriid sponge spicules. This evidence indicates a placement in the Triphoroidea, a diverse superfamily of specialized spongivores. Mohnia kurilana is transferred to the Newtoniellidae and placed in the new genus Pseudomohnia gen. nov. Pseudomohnia rogerclarki sp. nov. is established for a new species from the Aleutian Islands characterized by its narrowly turreted shell and distinctive multicuspid rachidian. A lectotype is designated for Mohnia kurilana. New taxa: Pseudomohnia n. gen., Pseudomohnia rogerclarki n. sp. 19 pp., 7 figs, gr. 8 [16.5 x 23.7 cm].

The polarization converters, phase shifters and filters, quan…tum and solid-state oscillators, open quasi optical dispersive resonators and power compressors, slow-wave structures and patter forming systems, accelerators and spectrometer; that is still far from being a complete list of devices exploiting the amazing ability of periodic structures to perform controlled frequency, spatial, and polarization selection of signals. Diffraction gratings used to be and still are one of the most popular objects of analysis in electromagnetic theory. The further development of the theory of diffraction gratings, in spite of considerable achievements, is still very important presently. The requirements of applied optics and microwave engineering present the theory of diffraction gratings with many new problems which force us to search for new methods and tools for their resolution. Just in such way there appeared recently new fields, connected with the analysis, synthesis and definition of equivalent parameters of artificial materials ¿ layers and coatings, having periodic structure and possessing features, which can be found in natural materials only in extraordinary or exceptional situations. In this book the authors present results of the electromagnetic theory of diffraction gratings that may constitute the base of further development of this theory which can meet the challenges provided by the most recent requirements of fundamental and applied science. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The problem of determining the location of an object, which is usually called ranging, attracts at present much attention in many different areas of applications, among them in ecological and safety devices. Electromagnetic waves along with sound waves are…widely used for this purpose. Familiar examples of ranging systems are radar, sonar, GPS positioning, speed meters, etc. Most are echo-type of devices, generating a wave and interpreting its echo from the object of interest. GPS is a cooperative system, in which the receiver observes timing signals from sources at known locations, and locates itself in reference to them. Passive ranging makes use of waves generated by the object to be located that are picked up by an observer. As indicated, there are three kinds of ranging systems, successively described as echo, cooperative and passive systems. Echo ranging is by far the most common method in practice. The observer at a certain point emits a wave of some physical nature at a certain time. When the outgoing wave front strikes the object, a scattered wave front is launched, which is detected at the observer point a certain time interval later.
