Browne, Sir John Gilbert, Tony Johannot (illustrator). 15 volumes of a 16 volume set (lacks Guy Fawkes) uniformly bound in red cloth with gilt titles to the spine and "The Original Illustrated Edition" in gilt to the front cover. Three books are dated, Boscobel 1878, The Lancashire Witches 1882, Windsor Castle 1883; eps are either publisher's lists on green paper or chocolate brown paper. All have tissue guarded frontispiece illustrations and carry the armorial bookplate of R.E.G. Weddell on the ffep or the half-title. Spines faded, boards of one book faded, top edges dusty, a few marks but generally a firm, clean set with minimal foxing. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾".

Hard back binding in publisher's original royal blue cloth covered boards, blocked and lettered gilt back and front, all page edges gilt. Quarto. 10'' x 8''. Contains (viii), 163 pp + catalogue dated March 1875. 12mo, 4 pp. Good, on lightly aged paper. Docketed in a contemporary hand (Brabazon's), beside Sligo's signature, 'second letter'. Sligo writes that the 'affair' to which Brabazon's letter alludes 'was purely of an official & Parliamentary nature', and that he 'must beg leave to decline receiving any communications respecting it', excepting in his 'place in the H of Lords'. 'Lord in his speech stated that the ferment which existed in Mayo originated solely in the Election, which I could not deny.' Sligo disagrees with 's opinion 'that it was to be attributed entirely to my conduct on that occasion'. In replying 'it became necessary for me to state every fact, within my memory, which could disprove that assertion. That I did so with courtesy to you, I cannot offer you better testimony than that of the Noble Lord, who made the Motion. The affair is still in Parliamentary train'. Sligo will, once 'the papers which were moved for shall have been presented', 'set [.] right at once' 'any error in point of fact which may have, thro my inadvertence, crept into my statement'.
