As stated in the preface this work professes 'only to give an Index of several Visitations in the Library at Middle Hill'. Heraldic visitation were tours of England, Ireland and Wales that took place in the 16th and 17th centuries, with the intention of regulating and registering the nobility and gentry of the period. With an extensive list of names to the rear of the volume in reference to the Visitation of Staffordshire of 1680, with additional notes to several blank pages throughout the volume. The work also contains two pages of the Index to The London Visitation to the rear of the volume alongside copious handwritten notes. With a small 'Heraldry Today' label to the tail of the rear pastedown. Rebound in a quarter morocco binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Externally smart, with minor shelfwear to the extremities. Previous owners bookplate to the front pastedown, with a small label to the tail of the rear pastedown. Light offsetting to the endpapers. Internally firmly bound. Light spots to the fore edge, and scattered spots throughout. Handling marks to the extremities of the original wrap, and several ink inscriptions throughout.
