Bound in half calf with marbled paper-covered boards. Uncommon work. Comprised of Cooke's pocket edition of 'The Poetical Works of William Mickle'…[1799], 'The Poetical Works of Sir Sam. Garth' [1800] and 'The Poetical Works of John Sheffield' [1800]. Bound together in one volume. All three works are undated, dated using Jisc from copies held institutionally at a number of libraries, including the British Library. Published by Charles Cooke, who created the Pocket Edition series as way for poetry and other works to be widely available to the public. The popularity of these works illustrates the clear desire from the British reading public to own these collections, with publisher's such as Cooke providing them with easy and affordable access. Illustrated with three plates to Mickle, one plate to Garth and one to Sheffield. With two title pages to each work, lacking the additional engraved title page to each.Bookplate of Claes Uggla. Bound in half calf with marbled paper-covered boards. Externally, generally smart, with light rubbing to the extremities and boards. A little chipping to spine label. Bookplate to front paste down.
