In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Small quarto measuring 8" x 11". Screw bound tan paper covered boards. Contains 17 black and white or sepia toned gelatin silver photographs each measuring 8" x 10" with some captions. Very good album with abrasions and edgewear. Images are fine. A photo album compiled of images of Sir Malcolm Camp…bell with his 7.5 H.P. Austin race car participating in speed tests in Florida in 1931 where he would eventually break his own land speed record. Many of the photos bear the copyright of photographer Richard LeSesne who was noted for his "photography of land speed record attempts on Daytona Beach, Florida, in the 1920s and 1930s." The photos show Sir Malcolm posed in and next to his car as well as action shots of his speed trials. The trials were held on the beach itself and the spectators can be seen lining up along the course to see the event. Another shows the car racing down the beach with airplanes overhead. In February of 1931 Campbell set the land speed record of 245.736 mph which beat his previous record from 1924 of 146.16 mph. His 1931 visit to Daytona depicted here, was a grand event and he when he returned to England after he broke the record he was knighted by King George V. LeSesne's photographs show close-ups of Campbell with his goggles on in his car. Although some of these photographs are slightly blurry it is clear LeSesne was trying to perfect shooting fast moving objects with his camera. One photo features Campbell in a suit posing with a pipe next to a non-racing car presumably after having finished his trials. Campbell was posthumously inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1990. A wonderful collection of early racing photographers featuring a legend in the sport.

Two ink signatures by Malcolm Campbell on separate scraps of paper, one with a small newspaper photograph cut out and laid on, dated 22/07/1935. One long-play record (33 1/3 rpm) titled 'World Water Speed Record 1956: Donald Campbell's Southward Run on Coniston Water,' with the original brown card slip. Photographs contained within a yellow envelope addressed in blue ink to Mrs. J. Villa at her home in Surrey, with a postmark of 16th August 1967. Some or all of the collection seemingly belonged at one time to the family of Leo Villa (1899-1979), who served as chief mechanic for both Campbells. Signed.
