In den WarenkorbHardback. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. First Edition. 1924. First edition. xii, 248pp. and a frontispiece portrait. Sir John Charles Fox (1855-1943) was the eldest son of John Fox, solicitor. He was admitted a solicitor in 1876 and became a Chief Clerk in the Chancery Division in 1891, the title of this office being changed to Master in 1897. He became Senior Master in 1917 and retired in 1921. He was one of the editors of the Yearly Supreme Court Practice, and the author of Handbook of English Law Reports (1913) and other works. This book is an examination of the separation of Lord and Lady Byron. The book is bound in the original greyish-blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with light bumping to the spine ends and bottom front corner and heavier bumping to the bottom rear corner. The contents are tight and clean with light to moderate foxing to the preliminary and first few pages and a few scattered light marks elsewhere within the book. The fore edge of the text block is fairly heavily foxed and on some pages this has seeped a little way into the fore margin. The front fixed endpaper has some pencil notes, a name and date written in ink (1933), and a bookplate. The unclipped dustwrapper has some shelf wear and soiling and the spine is browned. The corners and spine ends are bumped. The wrapper is in a removable clear protective cover.

In den Warenkorb4pp., 12mo. Bifolium. 61 lines, closely written in a crabbed, difficult hand. Good, on lightly-aged paper. He begins by thanking her for a book, before commenting: 'Things are in such a queer state in this country that it is hard to know what will happen. This Government is enough to drive one mad. They are afraid to do a thing until the Convention has come to some sort of compromise (which no party will accept). The Sin [sic] Feins will do their best to upset any recommendation the Convention may come to. You must remember there are the Ulster men (Royalists) Royalists [sic] from all parts. [.] Bring all them together and get them to agree if you can. Just like Russia. [.] Here we know nothing of the war. This country is full of shirkers. [.] I had about 10 acres of tillage in the old days now this year I am obliged to till about 87 acres. We cannot use our motor except very little. I there have put it up and bought a Tractor and have a man for driving it ploughing and all farm work. I enclose you a photo of it done by Millicent. It cost £400 - 0 - 0 and is the only one in Ireland. I like it. it will do all farm work only 4' wide 8' long and will turn in its own length. Therefore can get almost any place 20 Horse Power.' He ends by discussing conscription.
