The major lighting sources, which consumes electricity, are Fluorescent Tube Lights (FTLs) and Compact Tube Lights (CFLs) used in building lighting design. The calculated cost of electrical energy by these sources are NRs.22746.30 under certain assumptions.The expected saving opportunities in building are by meeting state-of-the-art in lighting technology achieved by replacement of CFLs and FTLs by LED technology and Boost the building by green energy. The first opportunity save electricity 39kWh/day in average and thus reduction in cost by 53.3%. The second one option goes to green energy but have higher cost of energy. The both saving opportunities have its own financial and environmental risks involved.Two models are therefore developed: i) Replacement of CFLS and FTLs by LED in stages and ii) Solar-Grid Hybrid System. Each of the developed models save energy and cost and both have low environmental and financial risks involved in it.

The pre systematically investigates and compares the characteristics of a variable voltage fed induction motor drive for two different types of soft starters; one based on IGBT and another based on Thyristor. The novelty of the work lies in the development of simple and flexible models for simulation purpose.This project investigates the influence of the parameters of the machine and of the soft starter on the dynamics of the induction machine start. The situations may reproduce actual situations occurred in practice, for example, the variation of initial voltage Vi, modification of the start time and load value. In this project we have investigated the relation between Total Harmonic Distortion and Power Factor of the IGBT and Thyristor based soft starter. Using an already predefined fire angle characteristic the influence of the initial voltage was also evaluated.Discussion of these results and conclusions as to the near-optimum types of profiles are delineated based on voltage and current profile fed to induction motor, starting times, and distortion in current with change in firing angle.

It restructures the power system and also helps in distribution system planning. This dissertation addresses the issue of voltage margin improvement by integrating DG unit and, therefore, this dissertation presents the model to enhance the candidate bus voltage of distribution system by optimal integration of DG units. The technical analysis is performed for radial distribution system (RDS). The proposed algorithm evaluates the base condition of loss and bus voltage and then generate populations of solutions at first stage. Optimization of DG unit size and locate the optimal bus can be done with the particle swarm optimization (PSO) method. The proposed paradigm works with the objective that minimize the active power loss under a constraint of voltage limit and DG size limit. Finally, the conclusion is that DG unit can locate optimally with optimized size to the distribution system for the voltage profile improvement of the buses and also the total loss of system is reduced. It is also concluded that the model can be used for any radial distribution systems.

After reviewing the basics of corrosion, it focuses on MIC. MIC is a special type of electrochemical corrosion in which the presence of microbes and bacteria alters the chemistry of liquid media so as to make them more corrosive. These changes are harmful to metallic equipment, processing machinery, marine vessels, etc. in an environment that is host to a wealth of microorganisms. A 2007 US survey estimated corrosion-related damages to cost $276 billion a year, roughly 50% of which are due to MIC. The industries most affected by MIC are power production, oil exploration, transportation and storage, water distribution and more generally all industries involving marine environments. However, means for effectively preventing and controlling MIC are poorly understood. As such, the book's later chapters address various mechanisms/processes that show promise with regard to MIC mitigation. Lastly, the book discusses the strategies currently being explored to mitigate MIC using green technologies.
