Gebunden. Zustand: Sehr gut. Gebraucht - Sehr gut Ungelesenes, vollständiges Exemplar; in sehr gutem Zustand, leichte Lagerspuren, als Mängelexemplar gekennzeichnet -Covering nearly half a century and including the works of some 50 artists in a wide variety of media, this book looks beyond ideas of musical category to identify the blues as a visual and cultural idiom that has informed multiple generations of artists-from Romare Bearden and William Eggleston to David Hammons and David Simon, creator of the television series The Wire. Generously illustrated with paintings, drawings, photographs, sculpture, installation, and video stills, and containing a wide range of critical writing, poetry, and fiction, the catalog explores topics central to the blues-from articulations of daily life, modes of abstraction and repetition, and self-performance to ecstatic and cathartic expression and metaphors of memory and the archive. Both scholarly and unique, this reimagining of all things 'blues' will draw audiences from across cultural and racial boundaries as it celebrates a uniquely American idiom that has made its mark on nearly every contemporary artistic medium. nOriginalBarCode: 9783791352534 200 pp. Englisch.

Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair. 416 pages. Illustrations. Appendix: the CODEP Report. References. Index. DJ has wear, tears, soiling, and chips. John Cody Fidler-Simpson CBE (born 9 August 1944) is an English foreign correspondent and world affairs editor of BBC News. He has spent all his working life at the BBC, and has reported from more than 120 countries, including thirty war zones, and interviewed many world leaders. He was educated at Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he read English and was editor of Granta magazine. In 1966 Simpson started as a trainee sub-editor at BBC radio news. Jana Eve Bennett OBE (born 1955) is a media consultant. Previously she was President and General Manager of History and H2 at A+E Networks in New York. She joined A+E Networks in June 2013 as President of The Biography Channel and Lifetime Movie Network. Prior to joining A+E Networks she was President of BBC Worldwide Networks. In that role she was responsible for BBC Worldwide's television channels, which operate in more than 100 countries. She was also Worldwide's Managing Director for Latin America with oversight of the company's businesses in the region. Bennett was made a Fellow of the Royal Television Society in 1999. The military junta that ruled Argentina from 1976 until the restoration of democracy in 1983 preferred not to jail "subversives" but to exterminate them, maintain the authors. Hence the infamous "disappearances," a subterfuge in which Gen. Jorge Videla's security forces seized, tortured and apparently murdered thousands. Simpson and Bennett covered the regime's end and the commencement of Raul Alfonsin's presidency for BBC television. They offer here a comprehensive, well-written account of the "Dirty War," its many innocent victims and the repressive effort to impose a regime of which violence was a part. Along with accounts of "disappeared" people of all classes, the authors show how relatives (the protesting "mothers" of Buenos Aires), journalists and others helped to expose the reign of terror. First U.S. Edition [stated], First Printing [stated].
