Paperback. Zustand: Fine. Inscribed to Adlai Stevenson III by Patti Simon, the first edition of Fifty-Two Simple Ways to Make a Difference by Senator Paul Simon. (illustrator). First Edition, First Printing. Octavo, 140pp. Paperback. Full number line listed on copyright page. Solid text block, a fine example. Inscribed by Senator Paul Simon's wife, Patricia Derge Simon, to Adlai E. Stevenson III on the half title page. Inscription reads "To Adlai + Nancy, In appreciation for all you do. Patti Simon / 6-17-04." Paul Simon (1928-2003) was an Illinois Democrat who served in the House of Representatives from 1975 to 1985 and in the Senate from 1985 to 1997. Simon wrote twenty-two books throughout his career, and was known for his traditional horn-rimmed glasses and bow tie. In a tribute to Simon, former President Bill Clinton said he was "beyond question, one of the most remarkable public servants I ever knew." Fifty-Two Simple Ways to Make a Difference was published posthumously, resulting in a copy signed by Simon's wife. Adlai Stevenson III (1930-2021) was a Democratic politician who represented Illinois in the Senate from 1970 to 1981. Stevenson's father, Adlai Stevenson II, was influenced by Simon's early writings for the Troy Tribune to stand against gambling and government corruption in Illinois. Signed.
