Current exhibition of works by the famous Soviet architect Aleksandr Ivanovich Gegello (1891-1965) is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of his architectural activity. Exhibition includes architect's major projects such as: the Traktornaia Street Residential Development (1925, together with Grigorii Simonov and A. S. Nikolskii), the Serafimovsky District block with a landscape garden (1925, in collaboration with the same architects), Gorky Palace of Culture (1925, in collaboration with Krichevskii), the Botkin Hospital (1927), Vyborg House of Culture (1927, with G. A.Simonov), the House of technical studies (1930, with Krichevskii), the monument to Lenin in Razliv (1927), Pioneers Palace in Leningrad (1936), Gaza House of Culture (1938, created in collaboration with D.L. Krichevskii), buildings of bath-houses on Chkalovsky Avenue (1938), school buildings (1935-1938, in collaboration with different architects), apartment houses (1937-1939, together with other architects) and many others. Over his career Gegello created more than 300 projects, and about 100 of them were complited. Gegello's creative work developed under leading Russian architect Ivan Fomin's influence and he trained on best examples of classical architecture. But in the 1920s and early 1930s, he became a prominent representative of constructivism, developing new types of public buildings such as houses of culture and movie theatres. In the second half of 1930s constructivist tendences weakened and he turned to the modernization of classical methods, with the free interpretation of ordered forms. Gegello's architectural projects are remarkable example of desire for the Socialist Realism, which was the basis of all his work. Gegello was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor as well as medals. Current exhibition catalog includes overview of Gegello's biography and creation with emphasis on his iconic projects by Soviet architect and Gegello's colleague Grigori Aleksandrovits Simonov, full list of projects related to the period under review (exhibition works are separately marked), list of displayed etchings, architectural drawings, linocuts, list of published graphic works, bibliography of Gegello's theoretical research issues. The catalog also comprises 21 images of Gegello's architectural projects, sketches, complited buildings, drawings, linocuts etc.
