In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. SIEVIER, Robert William 1794-1865 (attributed). Stipple-engraved portrait proof, with autographed note. 3 Southampton Row, [no date, early 19th century]. Single sheet, 280 × 210 mm, on wove paper. Stipple-engraved head-and-shoulders portrait; autograph letter in manuscript beneath referencing the sending of a 'proof' for insertion in the 'Commercials.' general age-toning and scattered foxing; parts of letter ineligible, but overall good. A commercial portrait proof accompanied by a manuscript note in pencil by the artist, relating to its circulation. The engraved likeness, executed in fine stipple and line, depicts a middle-aged gentleman. The note, written from Southampton Row - an address associated in the early nineteenth century with engravers and print publishers - refers to forwarding a proof for publication, consistent with trade practice. The signature appears attributable to Robert William Sievier (1794-1865), portrait engraver and medallist, who is recorded to have had a studio at Southampton Row during the period. .
