A commercial portrait proof accompanied by a manuscript note in pencil by the artist, relating to its circulation. The engraved likeness, executed in fine stipple and line, depicts a middle-aged gentleman. The note, written from Southampton Row - an address associated in the early nineteenth century with engravers and print publishers - refers to forwarding a proof for publication, consistent with trade practice.
