Drei erste Ausgaben zur Röntgenspektroskopie. - "Siegbahn began by constructing a metal X-ray tube that he and Ivar Malmer used in a study of the K series of heavy elements (zirconium to neodymium). They showed in 1915 that each of the two…K lines identified by Mosely (K(alpha) and K(betha)) actually consists of a doublet. To extend Moseley's study of the L series, for which four lines had been identified, Siegbahn constructed improved vacuum spectrometers and X-ray tubes to reduce absorption by air and, especially for lighter elements, by the wall of the tube. He worked with Einar Friman (1916) in a study of the L series for zinc to uranium. They extended the longest recorded wavelength from Moseley's 6 Angstrom units to 12.8 Angström units, and increased the precision by two orders of magnitude. The surprisingly complicated line structure was systematically analyzed in Friman's 1916 doctoral dissertation" (DSB). - Siegbahn erhielt 1924 für seine Forschungen auf dem Gebiet der Röntgenspektroskopie den Nobelpreis für Physik. - Exlibris. Première édition, rare, de l'ouvrage dans lequel le physicien suédois Manne Siegbahn (1886-1978) résume ses travaux sur la spectroscopie par rayons X, qui lui valurent le prix Nobel… de physique en 1924. Manne Siegbahn étudia à l'Université de Lund. Dès les années 1910, il s'intéresse à la spectrographie de haute précision. En 1916, il met au point avec Stenström, le premier spectromètre à rayons X sous vide, qui permet d'augmenter considérablement l'intensité du rayonnement et de parvenir à des mesures de précision qui sont à l'origine de nombreux développements dans la théorie quantique et la physique atomique. Ses observations sur la structure atomique ont jeté les bases empiriques de la théorie quantique. Quelques pages un peu gondolées.

Seine Verbesserungen in Aufbau und Methodik der Experimente führten zu einer deutlichen Steigerung der Messgenauigkeit und zusammen mit der zur gleichen Zeit entwickelten Quantenmechanik zu einem vollständigen Verständnis des Schalenaufbaus der Atome. Er fasste seine Ergebnisse in dem 1923 erschienenen Buch Spektroskopie der Röntgenstrahlen zusammen, einem Klassiker der wissenschaftlichen Literatur. Er wurde 1924 mit dem Nobelpreis für Physik für seine röntgenspektroskopischen Entdeckungen und Forschungen" ausgezeichnet.Nach seinem Wechsel an die Akademie richtete er deren Aktivitäten auf die Kernphysik aus und initiierte den Bau eines Zyklotrons zur Beschleunigung von Deuteronen, eines Hochspannungsgenerators, mehrerer neuer Typen von -Spektrometern und eines Elektronenmikroskops. Mit dieser Ausrüstung nahm das Institut eine führende Rolle in der Erforschung des Atomkerns und der radioaktiven Strahlungsprozesse ein.
