Bound in full contemporary vellum with gilt armorial ornamentation to boards and gilt ornamentation to spines. Vellum of both volumes with light plus age toning and moderate soiling; evidence of ties removed from both volumes. Moderate bumping to edges and corners of boards and to heads and tails of spines. Boards with light plus warping. Text block edges browned and lightly speckled in red and blue. Text in Greek and Latin in parallel columns. CONTENTS: Vol. 1 ([42], 731, [7] pages, including two plates). Partially erased pencil annotation to front board. Minor pest damage to rear board resulting in slight loss of finish and gilding; minor splits starting at heads of joints. Slight waving to vellum on front board. Text block with light plus age toning, increasing to moderate at edges of pages, and light foxing. Text block with light plus waving. Pastedowns with several tears and separations from boards, along with minor pencil annotations. With a prize leaf tipped in opposite half title, printed and dated 1816, hand-inscribed to "Joannem Gottl. Henr. Reudler" and bearing the coat of arms of the city of Amsterdam. Vol. 2 ([4], 666, [110] pages). Boards and spine with significant tears and wrinkling to vellum, largely resulting from water damage. Large puncture to vellum at head of spine, exposing quires. Upper edge of all portions of volume--boards, endpapers, and text block--with significant damp staining and mildew damage, impacting text. Front pastedown with splitting and wrinkling.
