Wraps. Zustand: Good. Blue wraps. 32 pp. A collection of short pieces on sex and morality, including a look at the psychological impact of suppressing the sexual impulses (based on two case studies of woman, and with a seeming stereotypical view of women) by Frank Waddy. Also present is a short piece by freethinker Maynard Shipley in which he seems to advocate the sterilization of some people, including those whose genetics may dispose their offspring to blindness or deafness. Shipley takes a dismissive tone to those opposing that view, and subtly endorses the eugenics movement. Frank Branigan tackles the subject of vice, focusing on Newark, New Jersey and its hypocrisy: he cites the very low rate of white prostitutes in the city, but notes the media and politicians do not mention the high rate of African-American prostitution in the city, as well as the fact that whites are the primary patrons of the African-American prostitutes. GOOD condition. Heavy fading and browning.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'The War on Modern Science: A Short History of the Fundamental Attacks on Evolution and Modernism' is a seminal examination of the cultural and legal battles that defined the early 20th-century conflict between religious fundamentalism and scientific progress. Maynard Shipley provides an incisive account of the organized efforts to suppress the teaching of evolution and the broader tenets of modern science in the United States. The work details the rise of anti-evolution movements, the legislative challenges to academic freedom, and the ideological clashes that characterized the era. Shipley explores how traditionalist factions sought to insulate society from the perceived threats of 'modernism' by targeting educational institutions and scientific inquiry. By documenting these fundamentalist attacks, the author highlights the complex relationship between faith and reason during a period of rapid social change. This historical survey serves as a vital document for understanding the roots of creationism and the enduring debate over the role of science in public life. It offers a unique perspective on the struggle for intellectual liberty and the preservation of empirical truth against institutional opposition. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
