Series title (Translations of Foreign Biological Memoirs IV)+ x+(2, contents & Weismann list)+455, 1 plate and v.occ.text figs; foxing verso fr.free endpaper & series title and v.lightly recto end free endpaper, otherwise internally quite excellent with no provenance markings, no further foxing or browning and no gutter cracking, only fault is top corner fr.pastedown where v.sm.patch of graphite endpaper surface has been lost, apparently from some kind of private label removal. Black cloth covers are clean and bright, boards have four blind-stamped border-lines, gilt lettered sp., top sp.has sm.nick however and there are few very tiny spots of rubbing along joints, corners good. An attractive copy of this important work in which, among other things, Weismann famously attacked Lamarckism, although his experimental refutation came a few years later.…
