No puede decirse que esa afirmación sea incorrecta, ya que la orden procede de las antiguas cofradías de arquitectos, escultores y albañiles que levantaron las catedrales de la cristiandad y, en algunos de sus grados, se muestra como depositaria de los valores y secretos de las órdenes de caballería. Sin embargo, esto no es óbice para afirmar que el tuétano de buena parte de sus ritos es inequívocamente hebraico. Elementos simbólicos como el Templo de Jerusalén o la menorá, y personajes como el rey Salomón o Hiram Abif, sobre los que se asientan las enseñanzas iniciáticas de la masonería, son de raíz judía.
